| Valvisisporites auritus is the megaspore of Chaloneria cormosa. The species name "auritus" refers to the ear-like projections at the ends of the trilete arms--you can see this in upper left. This photo shows a single megaspore that has been macerated out of the coal ball matrix. In the next photos you will see a series of this same type of spore cut in section to show details of the megagametophytes they commonly contain. |
